Cynthia Kopyar has been dancing since childhood. She grew up in a Slovak family who introduced her to her first dance: the polka. Throughout her adolescent and college years, Cynthia studied classical ballet and jazz. From there her dance training led her to competitive ballroom dancing, West African dance and Argentine tango. She was a featured percussionist and dancer in the film, Naked Nerve Endings, written and directed by Lance Lindahl. She has performed as a guest artist with the Moving Poets in Moulin Rouge, Charlotte Total Theater’s Artzilla, on commercial video, as well as for many benefits and galas in North Carolina.
Cynthia has studied Argentine tango both nationally and internationally with masters such as Pablo Veron, Fernanda Ghi and Guillermo Merlo, Diego de Falco and Carolina Zolkowski, Gustovo Naviera and Giselle Ann, Fabian Salas and Carolina Riveira, Cacho Dante and Brigitta Winkler. She was personally invited by master dancers Fernanda Ghi and Guillermo Merlo to study with them in Buenos Aires, Argentina in 2003. Most recently, Cynthia performed with Eduardo Goytia, US National Argentine Tango Salon Champion 2007, for a crowd of over 400 people in New York City in June 2007. Cynthia also holds a certification in physical therapy and is a Feldenkrais® Somatic Educator.
